5384Myanmar Earthquake Response: Thousands Reached in First Eight Days

In the wake of Myanmar’s catastrophic 7.7 magnitude earthquake, Community Partners International (CPI) and our local partners have mobilized rapidly to provide lifesaving aid. In just the first eight days, we have reached thousands of people with critical relief.

After conducting rapid needs assessments, we are prioritizing:

  • Health care, first aid, and emergency medical referrals

  • Safe water, hygiene supplies, and sanitation support

  • Food, cash assistance, and essential household items

  • Shelter support for displaced families

Immediate Response: Meeting Urgent Needs

With generous support from people like you, CPI launched an emergency response in Sagaing, Mandalay, Bago, and Naypyidaw, some of the hardest-hit areas. Working alongside trusted local partners embedded in these communities, we conducted rapid needs assessments and prioritized critical aid.

Here’s a snapshot of what we accomplished together in the first eight days:

  • Supported mobile clinics with medicines and essential supplies.

On the Ground: Widespread Devastation

Our teams and partners have witnessed immense destruction and heartbreaking loss. Over 3,600 lives have been lost, and many victims remain trapped beneath the rubble due to a lack of recovery equipment. Survivors share stories of unimaginable hardship.

According to United Nations estimates, 17 million people across 57 townships have been affected, with over 9 million facing severe hardship. The situation is dire:

  • Medical facilities are overwhelmed and struggling to care for the injured.

  • Thousands are without shelter, clean water, and electricity.

  • Food and medicine supply chains have been severely disrupted.

This disaster compounds an already worsening crisis. Since 2021, more than 3.5 million people have been displaced by conflict, and over 20 million—six million of them children—need urgent humanitarian aid. The recent shutdown of 90% of USAID’s global programs has further cut off critical resources.

What’s Next: Scaling Up Relief Efforts
