Cooking With Biogas
In Doria Nagar, a rural community in Cox’s Bazar District, Bangladesh, families survive on daily wage labor incomes of just $2-3 per day. Each month, as much as 20% of their income is spent on fuel for cooking – either firewood or liquid petroleum gas (LPG). Cooking with firewood on traditional hearths worsens deforestation and is a significant contributor to respiratory diseases, especially among young children.
To support the community, Community Partners International built a biogas plant to convert kitchen and toilet waste into free biogas for cooking. The plant produces enough biogas for 20 families each day. It saves them money and reduces their reliance on firewood and LPG. Closing the loop on this sustainable system, once fully digested, the waste matter can be used as fertilizer for the community’s crops.
Your gift can help build and maintain biogas plants providing low-cost, cleaner and renewable energy to low-income communities and reducing deforestation and respiratory diseases caused by firewood use.
Your gift can help provide households in low-income communities with solar power for lighting and other energy needs.
Your gift can help install solar energy panels to power community infrastructure such as clinics, water networks, and street lighting.
