The Community Health Impact Coalition (CHIC), a global movement dedicated to strengthening community health systems and including Community Partners International (CPI) as a member, will receive the prestigious 2025 Skoll Award for Social Innovation.
This recognition honors CHIC’s powerful advocacy to ensure community health workers (CHWs) are salaried, skilled, supervised, and supplied, enabling them to provide high-quality care to communities worldwide.
The Skoll Foundation’s Awards for Social Innovation celebrate visionary leaders and organizations that drive transformative social change, fostering a more sustainable, peaceful, and prosperous world. CHIC is among five organizations receiving this year’s award, alongside Apis & Heritage Capital Partners (A&H), EarthEnable, Healthy Learners, and Pacto pela Democracia (Pact for Democracy). The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, April 3, 2025.
Extensive evidence underscores the crucial role of CHWs in improving health outcomes. To maximize lives saved, CHWs must receive fair compensation, comprehensive training, effective supervision, and adequate resources. However, in many regions, these essential workers remain undervalued and unsupported. Since its founding in 2019, CHIC has worked to professionalize CHWs globally by influencing policy, funding, and guidelines.
CPI’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Si Thura, who will attend the awards ceremony, emphasized the significance of CHIC’s mission. “In the communities CPI serves, CHWs are the backbone of the health system, bridging the gap between people and essential care. This award is a powerful acknowledgment of CHIC’s advocacy and the transformative impact of CHWs worldwide. CPI remains committed to supporting CHIC and advancing our shared goal of professionalizing CHWs as the foundation of health for all.”
CHIC’s recognition by the Skoll Foundation reaffirms the critical role of CHWs in global health and highlights the urgent need to invest in their professionalization. This milestone brings renewed momentum to the movement, ensuring that CHWs receive the support they need to continue saving lives and strengthening health systems worldwide.
