Safe Toilets

Flushed With Pride

Kutupalong Refugee Camp in Bangladesh is one of the most densely populated places in the world. This places enormous pressure on key infrastructure in the camp, including sanitation systems such as toilets, waste disposal and washing facilities.

Poorly maintained and broken toilets can spread dangerous waterborne diseases like cholera, typhoid and dysentery. They pose a significant threat to the health of Rohingya refugees from Myanmar who live in the camp.

That’s where Musa Ali and his colleagues come in. Each day they head out to neighborhoods in the camp to empty toilet cesspits and transport waste for processing. They remove around 2 million liters of waste each year and, in 2023, ensured that 96% of the toilets in their catchment area were kept in working order.

Watch the video and join Musa Ali and his team as they keep toilets safe for fellow Rohingya refugees.
